How to Make Your Mehndi Darker and Last Longer
By NaamChinArt Team
The colour of your mehndi depends as much on aftercare as on the paste. Follow these simple steps to get a deep, long-lasting stain.
A rich mehndi stain isn't luck — it's aftercare. Here's what actually works.
Leave the paste on as long as you can, ideally six to eight hours or overnight. The longer the henna sits, the deeper the dye penetrates.
Keep the area warm and avoid water. Once the paste starts to crack, dab it with a little lemon-sugar syrup to reactivate the dye, then let it dry. Warmth helps too — some people hold their hands near the steam of cloves on a warm pan.
When you remove the paste, scrape it off rather than washing it. Avoid water for the first 12 hours, and rub on a little natural balm or mustard oil to protect the stain.
The colour deepens over 24 to 48 hours, so don't panic if it looks orange at first — it will darken to a deep maroon. Always confirm your artist uses organic, chemical-free henna; it's safer for your skin and gives the best natural colour.
