A Bride's Timeline: When to Book Your Mehndi Artist

Good artists get booked out months ahead during wedding season. Here is a simple timeline so you never lose your first choice.

The single biggest mistake brides make is leaving the mehndi artist to the last minute. During peak wedding and festival season, the best artists are booked two to three months in advance.

Three months out: shortlist two or three artists whose portfolios you love, check their availability for your date, and read their photo-verified reviews. Lock in your first choice.

One month out: finalise the design. Share your outfit and jewellery photos and agree on how much coverage you want — hands only, or hands and feet.

One week out: do a small patch test if you have sensitive skin, and confirm timings and the venue address with your artist.

On the day: eat and use the washroom before you start — a full bridal design can take three to five hours. Wear a top with sleeves that roll up easily, and relax; this is one of the loveliest rituals of the whole wedding.
